Introduction to The Battery Show and Acculon Energy
Andrew Thomas
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening to our friends in the battery industry around the world. This is Andrew Thomas, President and CEO of Acculon Energy, here with Matt Volk, the Director of the Acculon Labs Battery Testing Activity. And today’s an exciting day. We’re officially within a month of the start of the Battery Show, and we wanted to start engaging with our friends and colleagues and talk about a little bit of what’s happened in the last year so that we can have a great show.
So one of the big changes at Acculon Energy is really a relaunch and a rebranding of our battery testing activity. Matt, tell me a little bit about the process and where we were and where we’re going.
Rebranding of Acculon Labs
Matt Volk
Absolutely. So the battery lab has been around for a while, but we’ve operated much more in the background of Acculon Energy. With Acculon’s shift more towards manufacturing and a real product-focused company, we felt it was time to take the lab and kind of bring it alongside energy, hence the rebrand, and really start promoting all the services that we have to offer.
We’ve been working for quite a few years with a lot of the largest automotive and battery OEMs. So we’re taking all that experience and pushing it towards Acculon’s product development as well as providing services to a much wider range of customers.
Andrew Thomas
Yeah, and I guess along the way, over the last three years, as Acculon has developed its own products to offer to the marketplace, we’ve continued to do work with industry.
Are there any, even since last year’s Battery Show, any particular trends in the cell or pack testing business that you’d like to talk about?
Battery Testing Trends
Matt Volk
We’re definitely seeing a lot more focus on safety. Safety is always a focus, but even more so more recently to where there’s been a lot of shifts in battery technology. We’re seeing a lot more LFP batteries on the lithium side, and then the focus is going more towards sodium and alternate chemistries. Along with that, a lot of newer spaces are really starting to delve into alternative technologies. And that need has really necessitated the need for faster-to-market testing. In the past, we’ve worked a lot with automotive, where there are years worth of development, where you can take your time to really characterize and develop what batteries are doing. These newer markets don’t have that kind of time. So we’ve been really taking our years of knowledge in how to test batteries and working to shorten those test times and get as much as possible in a much faster amount of time to accelerate these two market products.
Andrew Thomas
Awesome.
Acculon Energy’s Last Year
Matt Volk
So, Andrew, in addition to Acculon Labs, what are some of the other things that Energy has been up to over the past year, and what are we looking to bring to the battery show?
Andrew Thomas
Yeah. The last year has been just absolutely tremendous in terms of progress at Acculon Energy. Earlier this year, we began the beta release of products from our one gigawatt-hour module manufacturing line that’s producing modules in both LFP and sodium-ion chemistries, and I think myself and the rest of the team will be pretty excited to have three examples of those products in our booth at the Battery Show with a particular focus on rack mounted solutions for your data center and behind the meter energy storage customers, a pretty cool aerospace program that we’ve been working on with a strategic partner, and then a line of commercial industrial batteries aimed at the kind of electrification of everything else. And these are things like construction equipment and forklifts and all using the same intellectual property, the same modular architecture, you know, that the team’s been working on for a few years. It’s just exciting to see it go from concept, you know, into real commercialization at a high scale this year.

Matt Volk
Fantastic. So a lot of stuff to see. We look forward to everyone visiting our booth. We’ll be at booth 3747. We have an island this year. Very exciting. So please stop by and see everything that we have. See you at the show, everybody!
